New Location Criteria (RIM has used before):
· The city/region has to already have a pool of talent that houses a mature skill set.
o City/region has existing base of software or hardware companies.
· City/region has to have universities with strong technical programs.

Hi Chakman...thanks for doing my work for me!!! haha... :P
ReplyDeleteWhen you are using self-competition with all the other existing offices in the US do you mean that they are just creating more competition for the talent pool in the US?
I agree with your pros and cons. I guess we are just going to have to pick our long-term plan...and then decide if we need a short-term fix to get everything started.
RIM already has 5 offices in US and some of them are R&D centers. To me, without any evident support, that these 5 offices in US have provide enough opportunity to US engineers. Adding 1 more office in US is going to give out more opportunity to the US engineer. however, if the engineer supply is saturated in US, RIM needs to pay more to attract engineer from other companies, or to compete with other company with more incentive to hire a fresh graduate.
ReplyDeletetherefore, i think we would put the new office in a place where the supply of engineer is more than the demand. in this way, RIM can benefit from a lower start up salary.
